Tell me about yourself . . .

Updated: Jan 26, 2020

Often an interview will start with this question. Give the interviewer a brief overview of your background and then ask a key question that will provide you with important information to demonstrate how well you fit the job.

"I am a (adjective) title with expertise in (an overview of what you do). I bring strengths in (your major skills). I am known for (your one line reputation). Bill, it would be helpful to know the key duties of the job, the challenges, and what you want me to accomplish in the first 3 to 6 months (the A, B, Cs and Ds of the job)?"

Throughout the interview sell them your ability to do A, B, C and D and you'll be on your way to cultivating an offer.
